What can artistic practice teach us about cultural policy in times of ecological change? This question is central to Dr. Aleksandra Bajde’s contribution to the Research Forum Shaping Ecological Futures in Coimbra, where she will present Ecological Imaginaries and Cultural Governance in Serbia and Slovenia: What Cultural Policy Can Learn from Artistic Practice.
Drawing on research conducted during her RECAS fellowship, including interviews with cultural practitioners in Serbia and Slovenia, her paper considers how ecological concerns take shape through artistic work, everyday organisational choices, and collective imaginaries. It asks how cultural governance can respond to the knowledge and approaches emerging from these practices, and where existing policy frameworks fall short.
The forum offers a space for researchers and practitioners to discuss the changes ecological transition demands of cultural institutions, policies, and ways of working. It follows the international conference on October 20–21, organised by the Direção-Geral das Artes (DGARTES) and the University of Coimbra through the Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies (CEIS20).
